Distillates use heat to extract the THC cannabinoids and Live Resin uses freezing temperatures in their extraction process. This is the defining feature of each.
LIVE RESIN takes live cannabis flower and flash freezes it, In the freezing process the terpenes and cannabinoids are preserved. Freezing the plant preserves all the rich flavors and wonderful aromas that the plant has. You then run a solvent through it and later get rid of the solvent using warm water and vacuuming out the liquid, what you are left with is a thick potent concentrate.
Because heat is not used in the live resin process, decarboxylation has not yet occurred and the THC has not been activated yet.
Live Resin is made so that all the aromas and flavor that comes from the plant is still present in the concentrate. When using live resin, it smells and tastes like you are smoking actual flowers! This is due to the extraction process.
